Lime burning at Ballenberg

Before concrete and cement triumphed, lime mortar was used for construction. Do you know how it was manufactured ? For mortar, plaster and limewash, limestone was heated in an oven to more than 1000°C and then «extinguished» with water after cooling. This technique from the past has been revived at Ballenberg and continued according to old traditions.
