Meiringen serves as the area’s hub and as the starting point for all experiences and excursions in the resort. For example, Meiringen is just a few minutes away from the Aare Gorge, the mountain railway up the Hasliberg and the Reichenbachfall Funicular, which takes you directly to the legendary Reichenbach Waterfall. The waterfall is a must for Sherlock Holmes fans, who will also want to check out the museum and the statue on Casinoplatz. Meiringen also hosts various cultural and sporting events.
In winter, you can either head from Meiringen to the Hasliberg slopes or into the quiet side valleys in the direction of Grosse Scheidegg, Guttannen or Gadmen.

Come here for fun and thrills. You can easily reach the sunny south-facing slope with the mountain railways. This is the home of Muggestutz, the oldest Hasli dwarf. There are two Muggestutz-themed trails for children. They will love the good-natured legendary figure and his friends. The trails have been designed with great care and are known far beyond the region’s borders as a family favourite. The Hasliberg also has a varied network of walking paths, mountain hiking trails and bike trails. The (literal) high point of any visit to the area has to be the Alpen tower. The tower’s mountain restaurant with panoramic views is easily accessible by gondola cableway and serves as a starting point for many exciting mountain hikes.

During the colder months, the Meiringen-Hasliberg snow sports region offers a wide range of winter sports options. Skiers and snowboarders can expect perfectly groomed slopes. Novices will enjoy themselves here just as much as experts. Skihäsliland at the Bidmi mountain railway station is considered one of the most beautiful children’s ski areas in the Alps. The Hasliberg also boasts numerous winter hiking trails, a classic cross-country skiing and skating trail and several sledging runs.

The Haslital is home to some of the most picturesque landscapes in the Alps. For example, Rosenlaui was attracting important artists to the area as far back as 200 years ago. They were inspired by the contrasts between the gentle Alpine meadows, the tranquil forests and the untamed ice and rock. These days, it’s mainly hikers, mountain bikers and mountaineers who find inspiration in the tranquillity and magnificent scenery. Right where Rosenlaui meets the Aaretal, the Reichenbach Waterfall plunges majestically into the depths. The waterfall was the setting for the violent end of master detective Sherlock Holmes, making it part of literary history.

In winter, you can come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the slopes with a beautiful winter hiking trail on the flat valley floor or a signposted snowshoeing trail up to the Grosse Scheidegg. Afterwards, return down into the valley with a thrilling sledge ride on the snow-covered pass track.

The Grimsel and Susten region is known as Switzerland’s “moated castle”. The water of this barren yet magnificent natural landscape is collected in numerous reservoirs and used to produce electricity. Guided tours of the area’s large power stations, many of which are underground, provide an exciting insight into how energy is produced. The area also has many interesting places to go on a day out, such as the Gelmersee, the Tälli via ferrata and the Trift hanging bridge.

Another top attraction here is the idyllic Engstlenalp. It is known in Switzerland as a “place of power” that gives you energy.

Tranquillity reigns here in winter. Gadmen and Guttannen are sleepy mountain villages at this time of year, offering relaxation in an unspoilt winter landscape. There are two ski lifts in Gadmen and Guttannen as well as various winter hiking trails. The sunny cross-country ski trail in Gadmen, which runs along the Gadmerwasser is one of the area’s gems. It’s set up as a 15 km circuit with great views of the stunning mountain scenery. There is also a shortened circuit that is floodlit several evenings a week.

The Grimsel and Susten region is a mecca of ski touring. The reservoirs and hydroelectric power stations here are covered in a thick blanket of snow in winter. The Handeck-Gerstenegg cable car, which maintenance staff use to reach the facilities, can also be used by ski tourers who want to come here.
