This encounter is fateful. In the summer of 1894, the young Rosa Tännler entertains and looks after guests on the Steinalp. The mountain house "Zum Stein" belongs to her parents, who also run the "Bären" in Gadmen. The small hotel has a handful of beds that serve as shelter for travellers. Medallist and artist Fritz Ulysse Landry is travelling with a colleague over the Susten when he catches sight of the natural beauty - its grace overwhelms him on the spot. He paints Rosa and later uses the picture as a model for the design of a new gold coin - the Goldvreneli.
The Goldvreneli Trail starts below the church in Gadmen and is a good three kilometres long. The trail loops north of the village centre and returns to the starting point. Along the way, at nine stations, those interested learn more about the valley around 1900, about the suffering and joys of the locals, the emerging tourism and the role of women, the hospitality and openness of the people here. And of course you get to know Rosa Tännler better - the mountain child, the Goldvreneli, who went out into the world. And always remained a Gadmerin at heart. Each station is equipped with an information board, and via QR code and the informative website, the respective topics can be interactively deepened with stories and facts.
