How should I behave in the Jungfrau Region? (German file)

Duty to wear masks
Wearing a protective mask in public transport, in all indoor public spaces and certain outdoor zones is compulsory throughout Switzerland. You can find the protection concept of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen here (German file).

Masks are compulsory on chair and bar lifts. Scarves, bandanas or the collar of a jumper are not considered to be approved masks. Masks are available in the Coop supermarket, in souvenir shops and at all serviced stations of the Schilthorn and Jungfrau Railways.

Ski area
The Mürren-Schilthorn ski area is open the condition is a strict protection concept. In the lifts, two-thirds of the places may be occupied and the distance of 1.5 meters must be respected. 

Railroads
Mürren and Gimmelwald are accessible as usual. The gondola between Mürren and the Schilthorn is in continuous operation as well as the cable car from Lauterbrunnen via Grütschalp to Mürren. All businesses are operating in compliance with the protection concept.

Restaurants
Restaurants must remain closed until the end of February. In the village and in the ski area there are various take away offers.  

Stores and businesses
Shops for non-daily necessities are closed until the end of February. Public facilities close at 7 p.m. and remain closed on Sundays and public holidays. Crowds of up to five people are allowed in public spaces, including children.

Medical practice
The practice in Mürren is closed. The practice in Lauterbrunnen is open and offers a consultation for people with symptoms of a respiratory infection in the afternoon. This takes place separately in the garage. Smear tests are performed according to the criteria of the BAG.

Good to know

The holiday village Mürren is busy in summer as well as in winter. The ski season lasts from mid December to the end of April. Only in November it's quiet on the roads.

Parking in the Lauterbrunnen Valley

Multi-storey car park Lauterbrunnen
You will find the Lauterbrunnen car park at the entrance to the village, Lauterbrunnen railway station. Parking spaces can be reserved online for a minimum of 5 days (winter). Please enter the parking code upon arrival. A separate reservation must be made for each car.

Schilthornbahn car park in Stechelberg
We recommend holiday guests to use the prepayment ticket.
Guests take a ticket at the entrance and go to the ticket machine. Before introducing the ticket, the guest selects the prepayment ticket button and pays the requested amount of CHF 40.00, CHF 65.00 or CHF 80.00.
This ticket is now recoded and allows to go in and out as often as wished for 7, 14 or 30 consecutive days.
When leaving the station, the ticket is returned by the automatic exit control system.

The reliable Swiss railway network offers you a luggage transport service from station to station or from door to door. This service is also available outside of Switzerland.

Luggage special - free luggage service
Save yourself the trouble of lugging your luggage around and take advantage of the free luggage service offered by your hotel and SBB. Your luggage will be collected from your home and will be waiting for you in your hotel room when you arrive. The free offer is valid for bookings until 30.4.2021. Bicycles are transported along the entire route Lauterbrunnen-Grütschalp-Winteregg-Mürren.

Transport with a GA travelcard and a day pass for bicycles to Mürren: free of charge.
Transport with GA, Half-Fare travelcard and without discount: The same price applies to the bicycle as for an adult person.

Security
Mürren and it's surroundings are closely linked to nature. Here it is important to stick to natures rules and treat the environment with respect.

Meteorological conditions:
The weather can change quickly and unexpectedly in the mountains. Always equip yourself accordingly and only go on tours that are appropriate for your abilities.
In winter, pay particular attention to the avalanche situation.

Mother cows:
Hiking trails partly lead across cow pastures. Hikers are guests of the animals there.
Keep your distance, do not touch the calves and do not lead your dog across the pasture if this can be avoided.

Each overnight visitor staying in Mürren or Gimmelwald has the right to receive the guest card.
Either your host hands you the card or you recevie it at the tourist information after having paid the visitors tax (form provided by your host).

Visitors Tax

According to the visitor’s tax regulations of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen, every guest is subject to the visitor’s tax obligation. A guest within the meaning of the regulations is any person who spends the night in the municipality of Lauterbrunnen without tax residence.

Children under 6 years exempt from local tax payments.
