5 Sledding Experiences
Jungfrau Region's Blogbuster Series / Nr. 57
You don't ski or snowboard, but you like to be in the mountains in winter, enjoy the snow and a bit of action? Then tobogganing is just the thing for you. Whether alone, with friends or family, everyone will find the perfect toboggan run in the Jungfrau Region! Here are 5 tobogganing experiences you won't forget.
#1 VELOGEMEL AT BUSSALP
The Velogemel is a single-track, steerable sports sledge that can only be found in Grindelwald. Every February, the Velogemel World Championship takes place in Grindelwald, at the Bussalp to be precise. This is also the ideal place to try out the Velogemel for yourself! Those who don't quite trust the single-track sledge can also hire sledges and enjoy the route on two runners.
Here you can find more information about the velogemel.
#2 GROSSE SCHEIDEGG – SCHWARZWALDALP
The fun can begin after a PostBus ride through the snow-covered Reichenbach Valley to the Schwarzwaldalp and then on to the Grosse Scheidegg. The 5.5-kilometre-long sledging run in the heart of Switzerland starts on the Grosse Scheidegg. The action-packed sledge ride through the magnificent natural scenery finally ends at the Schwarzwaldalp. The sledging run slopes gently down the mountain and is suitable for novice and experienced riders.
#3 BIG PINTENFRITZ
The starting point on First is reached from Grindelwald by gondola lift in 25 minutes. From there, a marked winter hiking trail leads in just over 2.5 hours past the Bachalpsee to the Faulhorn - the highest point of this tour. In addition to the opportunity to take a breather there is a unique panoramic view of many parts of Switzerland up here. The highlight follows at the end the descent towards Bussalp and Grindelwald, where a total of 15 kilometers and 1600 meters of altitude are covered.By the way the special name «Big Pinenfritz» is due to the legendary host Fritz Bohren who ran the «Pinte» (Hotel Bellevue) as well as the Berghotel Faulhorn in Grindelwald.
#4 APOLLO RUN
After a short ride on the chairlift to the Schiltgrat mountain station, you already have a breathtaking view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The first sections of the trail are steep and jump start the sledge. The second part can be, depending on snow conditions, a bit slow. Shortly after passing the chalets of Gimmeln, the quaint mountain village of Mürren comes into view. You glide through the snow-covered forest right back into the village without having to pull the sledges.
#5 FOX RUN WENGEN
4.5 kilometres of toboggan run right next to the Lauberhorn run: here tobogganists are closer to the racers than anywhere else. On the sometimes challenging, carefully prepared track, they can sled just as tactically as these. Which is the smartest line? How can the momentum be better exploited? If you think smart as a fox on the Fox Run, you'll really pick up speed right after the start on the Wengernalp and arrive with a shot at the finish, the Wengen train station. To get back up right away and make it even better on the next round. Tip: If you go down fast enough, you can just about make it without waiting for the next train at Wengernalp. Toboggan until the runners glow!
