5 Things You Can Only Find In The Jungfrau Region

Jungfrau Region's Blogbuster Series / Nr. 30

Uniqueness and diversity are what you are looking for? Here are 5 things you will only find in the Jungfrau Region.

#1 The highest Train Station in Europe

Europe's highest railway station is located on the Jungfraujoch. But this is not the only reason why it is worth taking the train there. Also the view of the Swiss mountains Jungfrau, Eiger, Mönch and of course the Aletsch Glacier is unique.

#2 Velogemel - another way to go riding down the mountain

Once in the Jungfrau Region, do not forget a ride on a «Velogemel» – a single-track, steerable snow bike that the people of Grindelwald have been using to get around since 1911. What's so special about it? You'll only find the velogemel in Grindelwald. Read our Story.

#3 Gelmerbahn - steepest, openair funicular in Europe

If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, this is exactly where you should be. With an inclination of up to 106%, this funicular is the steepest of its kind in Europe. Originally built to transport the heavy construction materials for the Gelmer dam, it is nowadays open for adventure-seeking hikers. In a blink, the funicular makes its way to the Gelmer valley 1860 meter above sea level. Once at the top, a walk around the turquoise coloured lake is a must, or a hike up to the Gelmer hut for some more spectacular lookouts.

#4 Longest Sledge Run in the World

For a whole two and a half hours the sledgers have to pull their sled behind them before they can try "Big Pintenfritz", the longest sledging run in the world. The start on the Faulhorn (2680 m above sea level) is only reachable on foot, starting from First. The ascent is long but the hair-raising run into the valley is fantastic: The bravest sledgers run the 15-kilometre distance in about 30 minutes.

#5 The magic place in Lauterbrunnen

The valley of 72 waterfalls known as the second Rivendell. Lauterbrunnen is not only known for its waterfalls that ripple over the edges of vertical rock faces up to 400 metres high. Lauterbrunnen is also home to a meadow where magical things appear. Never heard of it? Have a look at the proof photos.
