Sledging

The Jungfrau Region has more than 20 sledging runs for you to try, from Big Pintenfritz, the longest sledging run in the world, to other classics such as the Apollo Run and the Fox Run. You can also try riding through the snow-covered landscape on a velogemel – a Grindelwald invention. It’s a wooden frame with two runners – a sledge modelled after the bicycle. Have fun!

Big Pintenfritz

The world’s longest sledging run

There’s long, there’s longer, and then there’s Big Pintenfritz! In fact, this run from the Faulhorn down into Grindelwald is over 15 km long. That makes it the longest sledging run in the world. You can only reach the starting point on foot. It’s at 2681 metres above sea level.

OTHER GREAT SLEDGING RUNS

The bob sled run, the Fox Run and more

The Jungfrau Region also has plenty of other great sledging runs, such as the Apollo Run and the bob sled run in Mürren, the City Run from Bussalp to Grindelwald, Grosse Scheidegg – Schwarzwaldalp, Sulwald – Isenfluh – Lauterbrunnen and the Fox Run in Wengen. You’ll be spoilt for choice.

Velogemel

An invention from Grindelwald

Over 100 years ago, Christian Bühlmann from Grindelwald invented the velogemel: a sport sledge modelled after the bicycle. Today, the velogemel has a cult following. No visit to the Jungfrau Region would be complete without trying it out.

NIGHT SLEDGING

Under the starry sky

Fancy sledging in a magical winter landscape at night? Some sledging runs in the region are open after dark. Make your magical descent, then treat yourself to some delicious food.

SLEDGE HIRE

No sledge? No problem!

Visiting the Jungfrau Region but don’t have a sledge with you? No worries! These sports shops will lend you one for a small fee. Or inquire in advance about on-site rental possibilities.

Last but not least

Safety first

Sledging doesn’t require any particular prior experience. It’s fun for all ages. However, you do need the proper equipment. You’ll need sturdy waterproof shoes, warm, waterproof clothing, gloves and a hat. We also strongly recommend wearing a helmet.

Tip: One thing you don’t need to worry about taking with you is food and drink, as there are numerous mountain huts where you can warm up, drink tea and eat fondue.
