Historic sawmill Gimmelwald
A piece of antique craftsmanship
A visit to the site is especially recommended when accompanied by Werner Feuz, the saw expert.
He shows how the water is dammed up and directed to the plant, how to clamp, saw and plane the wood.
There is no electricity in the sawmill. Only natural water power is used to cut the tree trunks so that they can be used for carpentry work.
In summer Mürren Tourism offers guided visits.
Private guided tours are also available on request.
During a visit without a guided tour you can see the sawmill from the outside, but you will not see it in operation.
The sawmill was built in 1858. Until 2017 it was renovated and is still in operation today almost as it was over 150 years ago.
The sawmill can be visited all summer long.
Guided tours are normally offered from June to August. Check out the events to find the next dates.
The individual visit is free of charge.
Guided tours are free of charge for people with a guest card (Mürren/Gimmelwald). For all others the price for the guided tour is CHF 15.-
The sawmill is only accessible on foot. From Gimmelwald the hike takes about 40 minutes.
