Winter trail running

With over 100 kilometres of winter hiking trails, the Jungfrau Region is also perfect for trail running.

What the region has to offer

Even in winter, the Jungfrau Region has plenty to offer trail runners. That applies to every skill level – from beginner to advanced. You can enjoy a leisurely, sunny trail or a longer tour of almost 30 kilometres. Some of the trail running trails also serve as popular winter hiking trails and sledging runs. During peak season (Christmas until the end of February) and on weekends, the trails can be quite crowded. The winter hiking trails are marked with purple signposts and are well maintained.

Equipment

Running during the coldest time of the year? It’s a great and unforgettable experience – as long as you’re well prepared. Warm clothing is key. We recommend sticking to the tried and tested principle of dressing in layers. Of course, the essential kit also includes an extra set of dry clothes and a mobile phone. It’s also very important to choose the right shoes. Use spikes and trail-running poles if necessary. You should also always have a first aid kit with you.

Rules to follow

  • Only run on the established winter hiking trails.
  • Be considerate and give way to hikers and sledgers.
  • Run along the edge of the slope, be considerate of wildlife and respect protected areas.
  • Leave no trace. Take your rubbish with you.
