Snowshoeing

Many snowshoe hikes await you in the Jungfrau Region.

Jungfrau Region

Snowshoeing in a winter wonderland

Go snowshoeing in a winter wonderland. Trek through the snow, beholding the triple peaks of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Go up to the Leiterhorn vantage point.  Or to the Rosenlauital. Or so many other places! You’re spoilt for choice with routes in the Jungfrau Region. Each one is more beautiful than the last.

TIPS AND TECHNIQUE

Preparation is key!

For snowshoeing, it's best to wear ankle-high, waterproof hiking boots or special winter shoes. Using the right snowshoe stepping technique will not only get you moving faster, but will also conserve energy. Always remember the following when walking uphill: as soon as it gets steeper, you should start using the heel lifters. This will get you standing nearly upright, which makes the uphill going much easier. To go downhill quickly with snowshoes, using a glissade or step-slide technique is recommended. To do this, lean back slightly and glide down with your knees slightly bent. The further you lean back, the more you can increase your pace.

EQUIPMENT HIRE

Optimally equipped

Want to go snowshoeing in the Jungfrau Region but don’t have the right equipment? You can rent (or buy, of course) some or all of the necessary equipment in select stores.
