Famous hikers

From Goethe to Tolkien

The Jungfrau Region inspired poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Lord Byron – as well as a famous sketch by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of «The Lord of the Rings», also found inspiration here in his younger years whilst hiking through the Bernese Oberland. And the Jungfrau Region even served as the inspiration for «Star Wars».
