DESTINATION: MOUNTAIN LAKE

FAMOUS HIKERS

From Goethe to Tolkien

Poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Lord Byron and a famous sketch by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy were all created in the Jungfrau Region. Even J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of “The Lord of the Rings”, drew inspiration from the Bernese Oberland when he was young. The Jungfrau Region also served as a template for a fictional landscape in Star Wars.
