Explore the Jungfrau region in three days

From the imposing mountain and glacier landscapes of the world-famous triad of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau to the deep waters of Lake Brienz - and back again. What are you waiting for?

The tour starts and finishes in Grindelwald, at the foot of the imposing Eiger and its historic north face. Over the course of three days, you'll move from one picture-postcard motif to another: picturesque chalet-style hamlets and villages, breathtaking mountain and glacier views, spectacular waterfalls and crystal-clear Lake Brienz. The region is ideal for mountain bikers* and electric bikers. For the latter, charging stations are available at various points along the route. Depending on battery capacity, however, we recommend carrying a spare battery in your day pack.

Day 1: GRINDELWALD - MÜRREN

Grindelwald - Kleine Scheidegg - Wengen - Lauterbrunnen - Grütschalp - Mürren (overnight stay)

Direct tour option: 30 km, 1200 metres in altitude, 600 metres downhill (via Zweilütschinen, not via Kleine Scheidegg).
The direct tour option starts in Grindelwald on the Schweizmobil cycle route 61, out of the valley along the Schwarze Lütschine to Zweilütschinen. Here you change to Alpine Route 1 to Lauterbrunnen, where the second ascent begins on the signposted bike trail 450 towards Mürren. From Mittelberg, you leave the signposted bike route and ride along the railway line to Mürren on an asphalt path. The car-free, unspoilt panoramic mountain village at the foot of the Schilthorn offers breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Difficult tour variant: 35 km, 2100 vertical metres, 1500 metres of descent
The difficult tour variant starts with a longer ascent of a good 1100 vertical metres on a paved, car-free road to Kleine Scheidegg, the hub to the Jungfraujoch. If you are travelling with an e-MTB, you can recharge your battery here - and of course marvel at the impressive panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The signposted bike route no. 1 continues via Wengen into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland's base jump Mecca. A short detour to the world-famous Staubbach Falls is well worthwhile. In Lauterbrunnen you join the direct tour variant (see above).

Day 2: MÜRREN - MEIRINGEN

Mürren - Stechelberg - Lauterbrunnen - Interlaken - Brienz  - Meiringen (overnight stay)

60 km, 800 metres in altitude, 1800 metres downhill
From Mürren, the route takes you back on bike route 450 along small and sometimes steep asphalt and alpine paths via Gimmelwald to Stechelberg. Now you roll comfortably down the Lauterbrunnen Valley, past the Trümmelbach Falls. After Lauterbrunnen, you can choose to ride on the right-hand side of the river on forest paths and easy trails on Alpine Bike Route 1 or on the road to the left of the river. Depending on the time of day, you can expect some traffic here. From Zweilütschinen, bike route 1 leads to the right of the Lütschine as far as Wilderswil and through Interlaken to the northern shore of Lake Brienz. From here, bike trail 451 runs along partly paved and partly unpaved paths in a constant up and down, always with a beautiful view of the deep blue Lake Brienz, to Brienz. In Brienz, you switch to the Aare cycle path no. 8, where you can enjoy the last few kilometres of the day, along the right bank of the Aare, to bring the long day's cycling to a leisurely close.

Day 3: MEIRINGEN - GRINDELWALD

Meiringen - Grosse Scheidegg - Grindelwald

30 km, 1500 vertical metres, 1050 vertical metres
On the last day of the circular tour, you will also be riding on Alpine Bike Route No. 1. The first attraction of the day awaits right after the first few metres in altitude: the legendary Reichenbach Falls, where Sherlock Holmes defeated his arch-enemy Professor Moriarty. After a further 400 metres in altitude, you reach Rosenlaui. The spectacular glacier gorge can be visited on foot, the tour takes around 45 minutes. After another 100 metres in altitude, you can treat yourself to culinary delights at the beautiful Chalet Schwarzwaldalp - and if you are travelling by e-MTB, you can recharge your battery here. Well-fuelled, the tour now leads up to the Grosse Scheidegg. From here, the rapid descent back to Grindelwald begins with the imposing Wetterhorn behind you.
