Gelmer funicular
The steepest open funicular railway in Europe.
If you're looking for a thrill, you'll find it here in the Haslital on the Bernese side of the Grimsel Pass. A maximum gradient of 106 per cent makes the Gelmer funicular undisputedly the steepest open single-car funicular railway in Europe. At the top, in the middle of a magnificent mountain world at 1850 metres above sea level, the Gelmersee awaits you. It invites you to linger and is the starting point for hikes and mountain tours.
The bottom station of the Gelmer funicular is easily accessible by car and by PostBus (stop: Handegg, Gelmer funicular). The station is located in Handegg, directly on the road to the Grimsel Pass.
