Anja’s story

My work experience days at Jungfrau Region Tourism

So you want to do a commercial apprenticeship. But where? In which industry? With which company? For students in the middle of choosing a career, work experience days are a great way to find out. We, too, regularly give interested young people the chance to take a look behind the scenes. That’s how Anja came to spend two days with us. Here, she tells us what she experienced.

On the first day of my work experience, I was at the tourist office in Meiringen.
First, they showed me around the whole office and introduced me to the staff. Then it was straight down to business: I got to watch and help out at the information desk. I also helped answer emails. I found it really interesting, because every email was about something different, so it never got boring. After a short break, I helped restock the brochures in the front office and sort out the old winter ones.

After lunch, I got to process the cross-country skiing passes. I really enjoyed that, because I love cross-country skiing myself. Then we sent out the new summer info guides to various places. After that, they showed me how and where to order guest folders. They also gave me a rough explanation of the tourist taxes, and then it was already time to close out the till.

On the second day of my work experience, they started by telling me everything I’d be doing that day. After a tour of the office and an introduction to all the staff, I got started in the accounting department, where they mainly showed me how to record supplier invoices. From accounting, I moved on to the sales team. After a short explanation of what this department does, I got to create a programme for a press trip myself. My next assignment was in marketing, where I put together a newsletter on a topic of my choice. And my second task there is the one you’re reading right now: writing a report about my work experience days at Jungfrau Region Tourism.

All in all, my work experience days were really interesting, and I learned a lot.
