Haute Cuisine Grindelwald

Naturally, the Jungfrau region is also featured in the prestigious Gault Millau gourmet guide. In Grindelwald, there are now four restaurants with 16 Gault Millau points, two of which also boast the prestigious Michelin star. The Haslital valley also impresses with two restaurants awarded 15 Gault Millau points.

Hotel Belvedere / Restaurant 1910 Gourmet by Hausers, Grindelwald – 16 Gault-Millau points, 1 Michelin star

A cosy little dining room with just six tables, where warm wood, charming décor and a beautiful original stove dating from 1910 create an alpine atmosphere. This is the gourmet restaurant at the Hauser family’s ‘Belvedere’ hotel. GautMillau.ch writes: ‘At the historic Hotel Belvedere, there’s a secret in the cellar. Down there, Hungarian-born chef Dávid Rózsa brings his vision of contemporary, regional cuisine to life.’ The Michelin Guide praises his technically modern, pleasantly minimalist and emotionally evocative style, as seen, for example, in the fantastic combination of Alpine pike-perch, apple, ginger and fermented lemonade. It also commends his strong focus on local, seasonal produce. Vegetable-based dishes feature prominently, and one of the two set menus on offer is entirely vegetarian.

Hotel Fiescherblick, Grindelwald – 16 Gault-Millau points, 1 Michelin star

The head chef at the Hotel Fiescherblick’s restaurant is Aurélien Mettler. “Not yet 30 years old, he cooks with the stylistic confidence of a seasoned veteran and the curiosity of a young maverick. A performance that impresses from start to finish,” according to GaultMillau.ch. Inspired by culinary journeys through Japan and Scandinavia – and shaped by classic French culinary craftsmanship. Set against a beautiful mountain backdrop, the restaurant offers an ambitious, modern, seasonal ‘Chef’s Choice’ menu featuring six or seven courses. Great importance is placed on using regional produce. The Michelin Guide praises not only the head chef and his team but also the restaurant’s décor. ‘With light wood, warm tones and clean lines, the welcoming interior has been given Nordic and Alpine touches, creating a pleasantly “casual” atmosphere. In good weather, it’s well worth dining al fresco – with a view of the north face of the Eiger.’

Hotel Bergwelt / BG’s Grill Restaurant, Grindelwald – 16 Gault-Millau points

As the surrounding mountains glow in the light of the setting sun, the grills at ‘BG’s Grill’ in the ‘Bergwelt’ design hotel also begin to glow – the mega-grill indoors and the Big Green Eggs outside. GaultMillau.ch writes: ‘Urs Gschwend grills first-class meat and fish of the same calibre. Alongside this, however, the experienced chef also presents an impressive gourmet menu. The veteran chef is on a roll once again in Grindelwald and has now joined the ranks of the 16-point chefs.”
