Nathalie’s story

My work experience days at Jungfrau Region Tourism

So you want to do a commercial apprenticeship. But where? In which industry? With which company? For students in the middle of choosing a career, work experience days are a great way to find out. We, too, regularly give interested young people the chance to take a look behind the scenes. That’s how 14-year-old Nathalie Fahrni from Münsingen came to spend two days with us. Here, she tells us what she experienced.

On the first day of my work experience, I was at the tourist office in Grindelwald. When I arrived in the morning, I was warmly welcomed and given a tour of the office. I was introduced to all the staff. Then they showed me all the flyers and the items for sale, such as posters and books. After that, I started my first task of the day: together with Fabienne, I processed letters, took them to the post office and emptied all the post office boxes. Back at the office, they showed me all the software programs and gave me a rough explanation of how they work. Then I got to answer a few emails and prepare the end-of-day cash report. After lunch, I was asked to make some thank-you cards. I really enjoyed that, because I could let my creativity run free. When I was done, I entered events into the system with Christian, the intern, and we looked at the website together. After that, we counted the till – and just like that, the day was over.

A press trip, a newsletter and a blog

I spent the second day of my work experience at the head office in Interlaken. Here, too, they gave me a quick tour of the offices and explained all the departments. My first task was in the sales department: I got to put together a programme for a press trip, which was challenging but exciting. In the afternoon, I created a newsletter on a topic of my choice. I dedicated it to “The most beautiful restaurants in the Jungfrau Region”. And my last task – writing a blog post about my work experience – is the one you’re reading right now.

During my work experience at JRT AG, I learned a lot of new things and got a good insight into the job. I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get the chance to watch or help out at the information desk in Grindelwald, but I really enjoyed everything else.
