The tour starts in the idyllic village of Gadmen. Right from the start, the route heads uphill, winding along quiet gravel roads through the Gadmen Valley. Once you reach the top, a varied descent with technically demanding sections awaits.
Mountain View Trail
Your tour starts in picturesque Lauterbrunnen. First, you ride at a relaxed pace along a gently rising paved road to Stechelberg. You can tackle the climb to Gimmelwald the easy way by cable car – perfect for saving your energy for the trail ahead.
Once you arrive in Gimmelwald, you ride through Mürren before the real climb begins via Mittelberg and Oberberg. Here, an alpine road takes you up to 1,880 metres above sea level. The surface keeps switching between rock and dirt – so there’s plenty of variety!
At an altitude of 1,767 metres, the next steep section begins. This is where you’ll need to push your bike until you reach the Marchegg. After that, it’s downhill again: the trail takes you across the Läger and down to Chüebodmi. The first few metres are a bit tricky, as steps make the descent harder, but the trail soon becomes smoother and more flowing.
Shortly after crossing the Sousbach stream, the next challenge awaits: tight bends on loose ground that will test your riding skills. But don’t worry – with a bit of skill, you’ll master this section too. A final short climb near Chüebodmi sets you up for the last descent. Wider, easier paths then lead you back to Lauterbrunnen.
Northface Trail
This scenic bike tour starts at the Schilthorn Cableway station in Mürren and takes you through breathtaking mountain scenery that will make any biker’s heart beat faster. After just a few metres on the paved road, you turn off onto a natural trail that leads you to Spilboden. Here you’re rewarded with spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Alps – the perfect spot to pause for a moment and take in the alpine scenery.
From Schiltalp onwards, the trail widens, making for a more relaxed ride. The route isn’t just beautiful – it’s informative too: along the way, 12 information boards tell you about the history of Mürren and the surrounding mountains. This adds a cultural dimension to the tour and gives your mind a workout as well.
From Schiltgrat, the trail winds down through dense coniferous forest to Suppenboden. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and the fresh mountain breeze as you glide gently along the trail. The last 100 metres or so take you along alpine roads up to Allmendhubel, another highlight of the route.
Waldspitz Loop
The mountain bike tour starts in Grindelwald, where you first ride at a leisurely pace along a paved road towards Bussalp. You soon reach the Lochsteinen junction, where you turn right and follow the signs towards Rasthysi. The road climbs steadily, and after a few kilometres you pass Rasthysi. It’s worth stopping here briefly to enjoy the view or catch your breath before continuing uphill towards Holenwang.
From Holenwang, the terrain becomes more varied: the last stretch to the Waldspitz mountain restaurant follows an unpaved natural trail. You’ll need some riding technique here, but the route remains very rideable and rewards you with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. At the top, the Waldspitz mountain restaurant awaits, where you can enjoy the majestic mountain scenery with a cool drink on the sunny terrace.
The way back is exciting and offers several options. A combination of road, hiking trail and singletrail takes you back down to the valley via Aellfluh. The singletrail section in particular promises a real mountain bike adventure, where you can test your riding skills on narrow paths. This route is ideal for sporty bikers looking for a varied tour that combines a relaxed climb with technically demanding sections.
