Yes, dear fellow lovers of a good picture …
… your friends will turn green with envy, and your likes and followers will shoot through the roof! The panorama around Wengen is comparable to the Grand Canyon – only with far more contrast. Your gaze sweeps down into the lush green Lauterbrunnen Valley at 800 metres above sea level. Just 4.5 kilometres away, you can make out the snow- and glacier-covered Jungfrau, towering at 4,158 metres. Definitely one of the most impressive views in the world, and one of the most popular photo subjects anywhere.
… long story short: see for yourselves!
Wengen digital photo hotspot trail
From view to view, from moment to moment – the digital photo spot trail takes you to the most beautiful photo locations around Wengen, no searching required. The whole trail takes about an hour.
Leiterhorn – 1,526 m above sea level – 60 minutes on foot
Barbecue spots at the viewpoint. Views across the entire Lauterbrunnen Valley, with the tip of the Eiger and the Mönch and Jungfrau in all their glory. From the end point, the view stretches across the Lütschental valley all the way to Interlaken. We recommend combining this spot with the Hunneflue viewpoint.
Hunneflue – 1,363 m above sea level – 35 minutes on foot
On the way to Hunneflue, you’ll enjoy superb views across the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the Jungfrau. From the end point, the view stretches across the Lütschental valley, Isenfluh and Interlaken. The path is fairly flat and very easy to walk. Well worth combining with the Leiterhorn.
Mönchblick – 1,186 m above sea level – 35 minutes on foot
No, you won’t find any monks here – but as the name suggests, you can see the summit of the Mönch (“Monk”). It’s the best spot for looking straight down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
Staubbachbänkli – 1,268 m above sea level – 30 minutes on foot
Is that the place with the benches where you can see the Staubbach Falls? Exactly! The viewpoint is right next to the finish area of the world-famous Lauberhorn downhill race. There are lots of benches here, and the view looks straight towards the Staubbach Falls – 297 metres of free-falling mountain water. In spring, you’ll often spot ibex here.
Stäublisegg – 30-minute circular walk
If you’d rather not leave the village, this is the perfect spot for you! The path runs just below the village, yet the views are still top-notch. With the chalets set against the scenery, you’ll be capturing beautiful shots in no time!
Mendelssohn Memorial – 20 minutes on foot
He was here once – the famous composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. What many people don’t know is that Mendelssohn was also a gifted artist. On 21 August 1842, he stood on this very spot and sketched the Jungfrau. The drawing is considered the oldest known depiction of Wengen.
Steinewaldweg – 1,410 m above sea level – 90-minute circular walk
As the name suggests, this route takes you through the forest – along a woodland nature trail, to be precise. Up at In Gassen, you can look out over lush green meadows with snow-capped mountains behind them.
Lauterbrunnen – 50 minutes on foot
There are several ways down to Lauterbrunnen. You could, of course, take the train – but we can highly recommend this hiking trail. If you’re in a big hurry, your knees will be wobbling by the end, as the path descends almost 500 metres. Halfway down is probably the best photo spot of all, with Lauterbrunnen, the train and the Staubbach Falls all in one shot.
