High, higher, Mönchsjochhut
In 1869, the Berglihütte was built as the first hut in the Jungfrau region ‘behind’ the Eiger. It lies at 3,299 metres above sea level – making it one of the highest-altitude SAC huts in the Jungfrau region. The Mönchsjoch Hut is situated even higher, at 3,657 metres above sea level. It is not only the highest SAC hut in the Jungfrau region, but in the whole of Switzerland. It is also an ideal starting point for high-altitude hikes to other SAC huts – or for a visit to the Jungfraujoch, which you can reach on foot from the Mönchsjoch Hut in just 45 minutes.
What a view!
From the Silberhornhütte, you can enjoy a fantastic view over the Lauterbrunnen Valley – and marvel at the Jungfrau from up close. Nevertheless, it is the Lobhornhütte that is renowned as the hut with the best view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. And rightly so – you can even admire the ‘Trinity’ from the toilet here. And compared to the Silberhorn Hut, the Lobhorn Hut is also much easier to reach.
It’s all worth the effort
The Schreckhornhütte and the Glecksteinhütte can only be reached with some effort and via a difficult route; however, the hike to the Silberhornhütte is significantly more challenging and is only suitable for experienced mountaineers. Nevertheless, the climb to all three huts is well worth the effort, as you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view. The ascent to the Glecksteinhütte is not described as one of the most imposing and impressive mountain trails for nothing.
On the Via Berna
A route comprising 20 scenic stages through the canton of Bern, from Bellelay in the Bernese Jura across the Mittelland to the Susten Pass in the Bernese Oberland. This is the Via Berna. The final seven stages of this 300-kilometre hiking route are situated entirely within the Jungfrau Region.
