Benches with a view

Bänkli are part of Swiss tradition - a cultural asset. They offer much more than a simple place to sit. They are usually positioned as if they wanted to show you the landscape themselves. They are there when you need a break on a hike or are looking for a suitable spot for a picnic. But also if you just want to be alone away from the hustle and bustle. Many a decision has been made on them, many an intense conversation has taken place.People have laughed, kissed, argued and forgiven each other.Imagine if benches could talk. They would have lots of good stories to tell... These are our top 5 benches:

#1 Bryndli, Mürren

The best way to reach the Bryndli viewpoint is on a hike to the Rotstockhütte. From Mürren, a slightly ascending Gütersträsschen leads to Spielbodenalp. From here, it is worth making a detour to the Sprutz waterfall before hiking up to Bryndli on a steep zigzag path. You are now about halfway to the Rotstockhütte. After a stopover on the bench, you will reach the hut on a magnificent high-altitude hike - without any further ascent.

#2 Staubbachbänkli, Wengen

If you don't have that much time, you can reach one of the most beautiful benches in the Jungfrau Region in just 30 minutes from Wengen railway station. And the bench is not called Staubbachbänkli for nothing. From here, you can enjoy perhaps the most beautiful view of the Lauterbrunnen landmark and the entire valley. A lot of view for little effort.

#3 Gibel, Hasliberg

You will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of Lakes Brienz and Lungern on the Gibel in the Haslital. A hike of around two and a half hours leads from Käserstatt up to Gibel and then via Balisalp down to Lischen, the intermediate station of the Hasliberg Twing - Käserstatt gondola lift.

#4 Bort, Grindelwald

You can reach this bench without any physical effort by taking the First railway from Grindelwald. Simply get off at the Bort intermediate station. But you can also earn your way to the bench. On a hike from the First to Bachalpsee, probably the most famous mountain lake in the Jungfrau Region. After a photo stop, you can reach Bort from here via the Waldspitz and through the forest. After this two-and-a-half-hour hike, you can relax on the bench and enjoy the fantastic view.

#5 Leiterhornbänkli, Wengen

Another beautiful bench that can be reached on foot from Wengen, but requires a little more effort than the Staubbach bench. From the village centre, you hike via Ledi to Hunnenfluh, where the half-hour ascent to Leiterhorn begins. The majority of the route leads through the forest. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded for your efforts with a breathtaking view over the mountain range and the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Also impressive: on the north side, the trail descends almost 700 metres vertically to Zweilütschinen. We recommend the hiking trail back to Wengen via Ussri Allmi and Flielenboden.
